The kids took advantage of Paul's last day with us by filling his schedule with multiple games of tag, hide-and-seek, and a full-on carpentry extravaganza. Paul, Mita, and Yvette guided the kids in making cars, a police car, a shinkansen, and a gun, which they enjoyed painting and playing with throughout the day.
Today was an active day where the kids seemed to be fully absorbed every minute with a different activity, be it observing and taking care of the ducks and finding things for them to eat, fighting "dragons", drawing or helping to prepare miso soup for everyone to eat together.
It was our second time cooking our soup and rice over fire, and it not only tastes better cooked that way, it is enjoyable to share food with everyone.
It was an emotional goodbye when Paul left in the afternoon. The kids were sad to see him go and were hanging onto his legs to prevent him from leaving. Sou-kun asked with a sad face "who is going to make things with us now?" As the car left, the kids rushed down the hill to pick bunches of flowers to give him on the way out. We all appreciate how much he has given to this place and to the students during his stay, and we will miss him a lot.
