I’m a grade seven student, almost in grade eight, and I’m about to start going to Mamenoki in a few weeks. This was my first camp here, and also offered a good opportunity to make friends with everyone there.
This is my summary of the camp.
THE CURRY MAKING
We ate curry for lunch, spliting the people who wanted to help out into two teams. One team was given the job of cooking the rice, and the other team was tasked with making the curry.
The rice was cooked with two large pots. It was a bit of a struggle to get the fires underneath going, but it was fun and the rice was delicious.
PICKING BEANS
At around one o’clock we went out to pick beans. We ended up with a lot, and they were left out for anyone who wanted to eat them.
BADMINTON
Badminton was really fun. There was almost always someone playing a game, and a lot of the shuttles ended up on the roof, which resulted in a few people climbing up to get them.
SETTING UP TENTS
We started setting up the tents before it got dark. There were two or three small tents for people who wanted to sleep on their own, as well as five or so larger tents that four grown-ups could share.
Most of us ended up sleeping inside, though, because it was a bit too cold.
NIGHT WALK
After it got dark, we went for a walk to an abandoned shrine. The woods we walked through were like something out of a horror movie, and we purposefully only used the flashlight function on a single phone. A couple people went ahead of the main group in order to scare them, which went perfectly. The walk ended at an abandoned shrine, which gave off a creepy air.
